Portraits: Anastasija Zecevic, first runner-up at Miss Liège 2026: from professional volleyball to a master’s in law

In brief. Born in Belgrade into a sporting family, she played professional volleyball for seven years before starting a master’s in law. In February 2026, Anastasija Zecevic, first runner-up in Miss Liège, is preparing for the Miss Belgique final with two causes in mind.

A few days before the Miss Belgique final, set for 21 February 2026 in La Panne, Anastasija Zecevic is tackling the home straight with seriousness and determination. She is 22 and represents the Province of Liège.

Rehearsals, coaching, stage preparation: she says she is focused, and eager to show the result of several months of work.

Anastasija was born in Belgrade, Serbia. Her father was a professional basketball player and her mother a volleyball player. Her brother plays for the Spirous de Charleroi and the Belgian national team; her sister plays for the Dauphines de Charleroi.

She herself played professional volleyball for seven years, including in Charleroi. It taught her rigour, discipline and perseverance.

Languages have always interested her. She speaks French, English and Serbian fluently, and has a very good command of Dutch, an asset in a national contest.

Her family settled for good in the Province of Liège after her father's career in Belgium, and that is where Anastasija lives in 2026. Her path has also taken her to live in other parts of the country, including Charleroi for volleyball, and to get to know Flanders.

    Law, and two causes

A master's student in law, she wants to give her Miss Belgique journey a committed dimension. The death of her best friend, taken young by cancer, strengthened her resolve to get involved in the fight against cancer, especially among young people.

Her studies also shape her thinking on defending fundamental rights and human dignity.

Professional sport has also brought her face to face with inequality between women and men, in recognition as well as pay. It is a reality she wants to highlight and help change.

    What the pageant taught her

Since being elected Miss Liège in September 2025, she feels she has grown in confidence, thanks to mental coaching, the charity work carried out as part of Miss Belgique and the support of the committee. She also stresses the bonds formed between the contestants.

To future contestants, she recommends seeing the pageant as a life experience: getting to know yourself, building confidence, pushing your limits and committing to causes that matter. Above all, dare, stay true to yourself and enjoy every stage.
