Portraits: Wendy, 36: “When I saw my very first photo, I didn’t recognise myself”

In brief. From Rendeux, Wendy did her first photo shoot in 2019 with photographer Paty Evrard. She is now a finalist in Top Model Belgium, whose grand final is scheduled for January 2027. Her journey, from the first photo to 8 cm heels.

    Wendy

A “commute, work, sleep” life, then a first photo in 2019 in which she didn't recognise herself. Seven years later, she is aiming for the Top Model Belgium final.

Wendy is 36 and comes from Rendeux, in Famenne-Ardenne. After studying tourism, qualifying in 2009, she leads a life she sums up in three words: “commute, work, sleep”.

In 2019, she meets photographer Paty Evrard, who will become a friend, and poses for her first photo shoot.

When I saw my very first photo, I didn’t recognise myself. I found myself so much more beautiful in the photo than in real life — when the photo was simply showing me as I am.

Since then, she has kept exploring: a theme, a photographer, an outfit, an emotion to share.

Her home base is Rendeux, on the banks of the Ourthe. She talks about it in simple words.

My region, my town, Rendeux: green landscapes, wildlife, plants and calm. A true haven of peace for me.

    Wendy, May 2026

Away from photo shoots, she describes herself as sunny and caring, and loves chatting, explaining and passing things on. Her passions: nature, animals and simple pleasures, a trip to the cinema or a good meal with friends.

    A child’s dream

She has dreamt of the catwalk since Christmases at her grandmother’s:

I used to put on my grandmother’s wedding dress and shoes and parade in front of everyone in the living room. She was so proud of me. I hope she still is today, because I certainly am.

I had to learn to walk the runway, but above all I had to learn to walk in heels over 8 cm high. It wasn’t easy. But by practising every day, 30 minutes in the shoes, I managed to do the show without any trouble.

On the catwalk, she talks about energy. In front of the camera, it is something else: conveying emotion, playing a role, almost like an actress. “Actress? Maybe a future goal!” For inspiration, she cites Scarlett Johansson, for her overall look and her haircuts.

    Her advice to aspiring models

Believe, work hard, give yourself the means to succeed. And she notes that the industry is changing: “The modelling world has changed a lot. It’s less about physical clichés now. It’s opening up to an overall attitude.”

The goal: to win the Top Model Belgium final in January 2027, then, if the opportunity arises, a professional contract and perhaps acting.
